Why squeeze the small property owners along the KFC row of shophouses - and why is it the proposed MRT in Bukit Bintang has the biggest physical surface footprint of any mass rapid transport station in the world! Another thing why are there plans to built a shopping mall cum office skyscraper on top of the 20 or so lots acquired along the KFC row of shop houses?

The Rakyat is not stupid. This is just a plain land grab to enrich the coterie of the UMNO clique at the expense of small shop owners. Well done UMNO, you have shot yourself in the foot again. As most Malaysians will not be so stupid to have the wool pulled over their eyes when they finally realize the last thing in the minds of these greedy people is to build an integrated public transport system. We should not cultivate the bad habit of calling a spade anything except a spade. By the same token, this is just a land grab.
I'm not taking any sides but my opinion is MRT shouldn't run through Bukit Bintang and any of its nearby since we already have LRT on it. Its is more efficient to build MRT at areas which there are still no LRT service for instance at MINES and Sapura which there are lots of government agencies operation here at Seri Kembangan. It is easy to come here but to go back it so hard because they are besides the BESRAYA highway.

Actually I am all for preserving heritage buildings and support the people in Jl Sultan, but in that corner of Bkt Bintang is there much heritage to preserve? KFC? MacDonald?? Surely this is a case where new development would benefit the area, and if fair compensation is paid along with priority for occupation of the new lots, the present owners could benefit too.

the best solution would be if mrt really has got no alternatives,
1.give em the market value compensation as the ground level would most probably be a mini retail section mall.
2.rebuilt a two storey buiding shophouse for them on above the site..even though compensation is given .its a win win situation for all parties.as we know, the above level is not gonna be use as a police, fire station or a clinic purpose...
3.disclose at an very early stage what the above ground level be used for.

Sentral is supposed the main hub for public to use the LRT. Yet many times in morning 7-9am, the platform for the Kelana LRT to KLCC is jammed with passengers, and guards have to be posted at the the escalator to prevent more passengers from boarding the escalator. Also the escalator at Sentral to bring passenger to Monorail is so narrow and breaks down. In contrast, I noted themuch wide platform space (double that at Sentral and KLCC) of the Singapore MRT. They did good planning. Why do Malaysian planners keep failing to do a competent job.

For Bukit Bintang area, the govt should apply the land readjustment method like those used in Japan, so that landowners can also benefit from the development and the govt does not need to spend so much money to acquire valuable commercial land. It's possible to enact a land readjustment law to facilitate this.

They need to start the so-called "beneficial projects" QUICKLY BEFORE PR takes over.
Easy money WITHOUT having to work ! How ? If PR Govt. wants to cancel, it has to PAY COMPENSATION ! By the BILLIONS ! Just like during Badawi's time when Mahathir's CROOKED BRIDGE was cancelled. Govt has to pay hundreds of millions. Same in Penangunder PR. Cancell the land purchase, has to pay millions.
That's what these PRASARANA fellas are hoping for !

This is crazy. It is either poor planning or they are doing a backdoor take over of the property under the pretext of development. If other country can do it (built they MRT without disrupting surface property), why can't Malaysia? If the trains move underground, why increase cost thru acquisition of surface property? Very fishy. Obviously, they have other plans for the land---either to sell it later for huge profits or to build on it to take advantage of its location. Dirty way of doing backdoor acquisition... Damn those in authorities... why doesn't anyone trust them?

Do we really need such a transport system (which in the end will prove to be as useless as earlier attempts) by causing so much misery to so many?

To all the landowners affected, go to court to get a perpetual injunction, prohibiting the acquirers and their successors-in-title from dealing with the surface of the acquired land in anyway whatsoever, with further orders penalising the acquirers or their successors-in-title in the event of breach or default. My gravest doubt, though, if any court worth its salt will grant this kind of injunction.

Why must you guys "bulldoze" your way through to achieve your goal? Why the haste? Why make people suffer? Why can't you guys sit down and go back to the drawing board to look for better alternatives? Why, why, why?

Maybe they are afraid that on top would collapse like the stadium. Then have to pay lots of compensation, not just buildings but also human life besides the political hue and cry. The important thing is that acquisition must be at fair market price supported by qualified valuer. A qualified valuer will also normally use as reference, recent transacted price in same vicinity.

Read the land laws. Owner owns the land all the way to the center of the Earth! To tunnel under the property, you have to own the property. That's why SMART tunnel has so many curves/bends. Blame it on the old British laws we inherited. Have they even said they'd tear down the buildings? Sheesh... people need more common sense, and stop being so childish and emotional.

"Zulkifli, however, denied that the government would develop the prime land in the Golden Triangle, saying: “We can’t do anything because of the safety of the tunnel.”"
This is too difficult to believe!! If other countries MRT built decades ago can have towering office building and shopping complex above MRT stations, you expect us to believe "We can't do anything". It is more like daylight robbery...

SPAD cannot blame just on the Landcode. They knew this problem will be coming yet they did nothing. If the sole reason is landcode, come out with a new law amendment fast and am sure both PR and BN will support this. MRT is costing way too much money by these unnecessary acqusitions
At this rate, Prasarana will acquire a large chunk of KL prime property for an underground project
.. has anyone done a cost benefit analysis and environmental safety impact study ?
... has anyone done due dilligence on who actually owns Prasarana directly and indirectly?

This is really daylight robbery by the Umno robbers. They just don't have the business acumen to run any legitimate business and turn it into a profitable entity. This is the only way they know how: the shortest cut possible through daylight robbery.

Abuse of power through and through.

Are these landowners getting their lands and properties compensated at market value?
